March is the time to prepare for the cooler months by digging out your summer flowers and planting spring bulbs and winter-flowering annuals like pansies, violas and sweetpeas.
Sow seeds like Namaqualand Daisies, Virginian Stocks, Sweet Peas and Iceland poppies.
Lift summer bulbs after the leaves have withered and store in a cool dry place.
Buy spring flowering bulbs like anemone, babiana, Dutch iris, freesia, ixia, grape hyacinths, ranunuculus, scilia, sparaxis, tritonia and tulbachia.
Remember to only start planting towards the end of March once the soil has cooled down sufficiently.
Remove summer annuals that are looking tired and old and start replacing with winter-flowering annuals like pansies, violas, sweetpeas, primulas, cinerarias and Iceland poppies.
Keep your camellias well watered especially at this time of the year when the buds are starting to
form.
Spread mulch around plants like camellias and azaleas because we can still experience hot weather in March.
Continue to water lawns thoroughly once a week if insufficient rain has fallen, and water restrictions permit.
Water your plants in containers at least once a week especially if soaring temperatures persist.
Citrus trees can be fed with 2kg of Rose food and 75g of Magnesium sulphate (Epson Salts).
