Looking for new bedding but confused about the ins and outs of duvets and pillows? Not to worry, we have some top tips from Lifson Products on the 'how to' of choosing new bedding...

Why is a goose down duvet lighter than a feather duvet?

The large, fluffy clusters of Hungarian Down have the unique ability to trap large pockets of air, ensuring an incredibly light duvet which is deceptively warm.

Hungarian Goose Down also has an extremely high filling power and is able to regulate to an individuals body temperature, keeping one warm in the colder winter months and cool in the summer months.

What is a microfibre duvet?

Microfibre filling is a sophisticated man-made fibre made of very small balls which are highly siliconised and therefore silky and luxurious to the touch.

Microfibre duvets are a unique product, made to feel like down and at less than a quarter of the price. Microfibre can be machine washed and are tumble dryable. Lifson Products produces Fine Fibre, a down-like duvet which has a high loft, and, like down, provides warmth without weight, ensuring the duvets and pillows are warm and cosy, without being heavy.

Why are some feathers black and some white, and which are better?

Different birds have different colour feathers like different people have different colour hair. Colour makes absolutely no difference to the quality of down. The best down in the world is Eiderdown which is almost black in colour.

Why is cotton casing on a duvet better for the body?

Cotton allows the body to breathe. The whole point of a down duvet is that it will regulate to your body temperature. If it is in a synthetic casing, it can't regulate to your body temperature or breathe!

What duvet is ideal for all year round?

A duvet with the highest down content and highest cotton thread count is the most suitable duvet for all year round. Down is a natural product and, unlike feathers, it regulates to the temperature of your body ensuring you do not sweat under a heavy duvet.

Down is found covering the breast of birds in Europe, whilst feathers are situated further away from the body.

Down is what ensures these birds are kept alive in the sub-zero temperatures.
