Stock up on silk sheets and paint your bedroom purple if more sex is on your list of things to do because statistics show that couples with these two bedroom features tend to have the most sex.  

A recent survey of 2000 people showed that the colour of your bedroom walls and the type of sheets you slumber on, can influence how much sex you’re having.

Conducted by UK retailer Littlewoods.com, the survey revealed that couples who have silk sheets had sex an impressive 4.25 times per week – streets ahead of sleeping on any other type of sheets.

On the other hand, sleeping with a duvet is least likely to encourage you to take a tumble in bed. Those couples who reported sleeping with a duvet only had sex 1.8 times a week, while those with cotton bedding had sex 2.72 per week. People sleeping on nylon sheets made love 2.35 a week beating those with polyester sheets by a smidgen at 2.33 times a week. 

Fifty Shades of Grey might be alluring in theory, but if kickstarting your libido is top of mind, then the colour grey should be avoided at all costs in the bedroom. In fact, those with grey bedrooms reported making love a measly 1.8 times a week compared to those who had a splash of purple in their room who reported having sex 3.5 times a week.

People with red bedrooms had sex almost as frequently as those with purple rooms, while blue with took the third with an average of 3.14 lovemaking sessions a week.

Couples with a pink colour scheme in the bedroom had 3.02 sex sessions every week compared with a black or navy bedroom which ensured 2.99 and 2.76 sex sessions per week respectively.

While a yellow scheme might brighten up your day and the colour orange can lift your spirits in the morning it seems they'll only ensure a roll on the hay 2.43 and 2.36 times a week respectively.

Brown bedrooms came in at ninth position with 2.10 sex sessions followed by white with 2.02 sex sessions and beige with a dull 1.97 sex sessions a week. 

A green colour scheme only resulted in a low 1.89 sex sessions per week while couples with a grey bedroom only made love 1.8 times a week rounding off the list of 13 colours.
