Back in the 80’s, Reyneke’s vineyards are organically farmed as well a being registered as Biodynamic which is relatively uncommon in Stellenbosch. To this end three variables are implemented: Firstly a holistic view is taken of the farm as a “living organism” the aim here to encourage all forms of life (plants, animals and humans) on the farm to flourish in a rich diversity. Secondly, herbal preparations such as yarrows, chamomile, valerian, stinging nettle etc are used in homeopathic quantities to foster plant and animal vitality and longevity. In the third instance a planting and pruning calendar is adhered to which ensures harmony with the natural rhythms and cycles that influence all life processes on the farm. In organic viticulture no harmful herbicides, pesticides or fungicides are permitted in the vineyards. The Organic White 2016 is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc 92% and Semillon 8% sourced from selected organic vineyards in the Western Cape. The varieties were vinified separately in stainless steel tanks and after fermentation the wine was left on the lees for a period up to five months, giving the wine lovely rich complexity.
Result: This wine has elegant grassy flavours with highly concentrated gooseberry and green apple with a hint of minerality on the finish.
