Choosing a hairdresser is just about as serious an undertaking as finding your soul mate. That's if you've got a love-hate relationship with your hair which I'm pretty certain most of women do. Having spoken to many of my girlfriends, I get the impression that we walk into the hair salon with a vision of how we want our hair to look and if our poor hair stylist doesn't get it exactly right, it's as devastating as if our partner stood us up on date night.

Many of my girlfriends salon-hop, searching for "The One" that they're convinced is out there somewhere. I'm not better. My last haircut was in a little salon in Tokai and the time before was at one in Cavendish shopping mall - not the smartest thing I've ever done. I've even resorted to popping into random salons across the country because you never know when you'll meet that perfect scissor-wielding specialist.

Today, during a visit to the newly-located Mirrors Hair Lab in Gardens, I think I finally found her. Her name is Gina Orselli and she is a hairstyling goddess. Better still, her gentle mannerism and the ease at which she was able to engage in conversation with me had me feeling right at home. And that's a good thing since Mirrors is exactly that - a gorgeous home - the ground floor of which has been converted into a quirky and chic professional salon.

Gina took into account my active lifestyle and made helpful suggestions around what length and style I should go for - one that I can wash and leave to dry naturally. She also made reasonable suggestions on how to take care of it without trying to sell me every bleeding product in the shop.

With their new location, Mirrors is offering a range of new services on top of their professional hair salon including beauty makeovers, eyelash extensions, makeup, manicures, pedicures and spray tans.

Owner and chief stylist Candice Donadel first began Mirrors in 2009 and has developed a loyal customer base and I can see why. The warm and relaxed atmosphere makes visiting the salon a treat and since it's located in the city centre, it's also conveniently placed for those who want to pop out for a hair cut or mani-pedi during a lunch break.

Go see for yourself. Who knows? You might just find The One this time.
