Cellulite – the word alone can strike terror and despair in the hearts of women across the globe. But taboo as it is, orange-peel thighs and dimpled bums are the curse of almost 90 percent of post pubescent women.

Not the best accessory for your favourite bikini, nor easy to shift. Cellulite torments ladies of all shapes, sizes and ages, resulting in an overwhelming demand for treatments to alleviate this cottage cheese effect.

Although there are no quick fixes when it comes to cellulite, all is not lost! The right eating habits, lifestyle and products can make a visible difference. Read our tips and tricks for some effective ways to diminish your dimples!

1. Diet
Avoid weight gain by following a balanced diet that is rich in vitamins, minerals and fibre, but low in fat. Yo-yo dieting should also be prevented, as it ultimately can cause cellulite.

2. Exercise
Regular exercise quickens the metabolism and can mobilise fat deposits. In addition, exercise prevents weight gain, a leading cause of cellulite, and tones the body, for an overall smoother appearance.

3. Cellulite Creams
No cream or gel will get rid of your cellulite, but they can assist in the short term to reduce the appearance by smoothing and firming up the skin and underlying muscles. Look out for treatments containing one or more of the following ingredients: Caffeine, retinol, collagen, DMAE and Vitamin E. Our favourite? Africology’s Slimming Detox Cream.

4. Detox
Cut out alcohol, processed foods and those high in fat, sugar and salt for one weekend each month, and try fit in two longer detoxes during the year. Concentrate on eating fresh fruit and vegetables, food high in fibre, and drinking plenty of water. This will assist weight loss, digestion, boost your metabolism and improve circulation.

5. Self-tan
Cellulite is less noticeable on darker skin, but rather than risking long term damage caused by UV rays, invest in a bottle of self-tan. Applied carefully after a good exfoliation, a good self-tan can hide a myriad of sins and leave you looking healthily sun-kissed. Try the Caribbean Tan range.

6. Scrubs and brushes
Brushes and scrubs stimulate blood flow and remove dead skin, leaving your skin smoother and polished. Try the Earl Jones Dry Body Sponge and Caribbean Tan Body Exfolia Cinnamon & Coconut.
