You hit the gym for the wellbeing of your mind and body, but your skin tells a different story! If you suffer from "gym skin" and those frustrating post-workout breakouts, read on. We've got some tried-and-tested methods to help keep your skin as healthy as your body.

1) Wash your face before you workout
Remove all excess makeup to avoid clogged pores that can lead to breakouts. Right products for the job? We like Esse Gel Cleanser and Beaucience Natural Gentle Eye Make Up Remover for a gentle yet effective clean.

2) Cover equipment with a clean sweat towel
At gym we not only contend with our own sweat and germs, but that of other patrons too. Workout machines aren’t always wiped down by users, so be sure to use a clean sweat towel to cover the apparatus and protect the parts of your body that make contact with them.

3) Avoid touching your face
Our hands pick up sweat and dirt, especially after lifting weights or using communal equipment. Try to avoid wiping moisture away with your hands, and use a clean towel instead.

4) Wear wicking fabrics
Prevent acne on the chest and back by wearing moisture -wicking clothing that draws moisture away from the skin, allowing it to breathe and reducing clogged pores.

5) Keep your hair off your face and neck
Use a headband or ponytail to draw your hair, which is bound to get sweaty, away from your face. Not only does it prevent bacteria from getting onto your skin, but it helps you see more easily too!

6) Drink plenty of water
Hydration is always important when you are working out, and does wonders for the skin too!

7) Shower immediately after your workout
Remove sweaty clothing and shower as soon as you get home. Try Beaucience Pampering Shower Gel for a gentle, natural cleanse that will remove impurities without stripping your skin from any moisture.

8) Thoroughly wash problem areas
In the shower, pay particular attention to cleaning your face, chest and back. Consider using a salicylic acid cleanser or scrub to exfoliate the skin and help prevent breakouts. Our fave? Dermalogica Clearing Skin Wash.

9) Keep facial wipes close by
If you can’t hit the shower straight after your workout, use facial wipes to remove excess sweat and dirt, rather than wasting time and risking breakouts. We’re huge fans of African Extracts Rooibos Cleansing Facial Wipes.
