It's become the norm to watch our friends update their personal lives through Facebook. At times it's even heart-warming to see your friend reach a happy moment in their lives. An engagement, a marriage, a pregnancy  - they're all major milestones worth bragging about but when does it cross the line into the obsessive?

A recent survey found that more than half of new brides impatiently change their Facebook status even before their wedding reception has begun.

In the survey, commissioned by David's Bridal, 49 percent of brides "would or did change their Facebook status immediately after the ceremony."

One wedding planner, Melissa Barrad, says she has even seen the Facebook profile update incorporated into the ceremony itself which she sees as merely keeping up with the changing way we communicate.

Barrad, who is Facebook friends with most of her clients, said that about one third change their marital status on the wedding night, and another third have done it by the next morning.

She believes it's the 21st Century norm.

"They'e so used to doing it in their daily life, it definitely makes sense for [brides] to update everyone in their world about their wedding and name change."

Interestingly, brides that left changing their Facebook relationship status too long and they'd start being questioned.

"People will say, 'Why haven't you changed your Facebook status yet?' when it's only been six hours."
