India's tourism minister says visitors to the country should take a cue from the lavish wedding of British model Elizabeth Hurley and marry while vacationing in India.
"We're hoping to promote marriage tourism," Ambika Soni said at the world's biggest travel fair in Berlin, according to the Times of India. "There are a lot of exotic locales and several Germans have been coming with their girlfriends to get married," Soni said. Hurley and new husband Arun Nayar, who is half German, are reportedly spending a million dollars on their India celebrations, with parties in Mumbai and three days of festivities in the western desert state of Rajasthan. Indian weddings usually span several days and includes lavish food, opulent clothes and chances to sing and dance. The tourism ministry is organising a mock Indian wedding between two German volunteers at the Indian pavilion during the trade fair, the newspaper reported.AFP
