It's not surprising to find many brides-to-be nervously chewing away at salad leaves or spending an inordinate number of hours in the gym every week. Drastic measures come ahead of any big day. But none is so drastic as bridezillas who resort to being fed through nose tubes in an effort to thin down ahead of their big day.

While a marked increase in primping and preening in the months ahead of your wedding are a given, starving yourself so that you can fit into your wedding dress seems a little over the top.

The "diet" is the latest craze in the USA and being clutched at by every bride who can afford the whopping $1500 for the nose drip and bag of fluids which promises a measly 800 calories a day whilst suppressing the appetite.

Dr Oliver Di Pietro is the genius behind the diet, telling ABC News that the fluid solution offers brides an almost instant diet fix.

Brides who don't have time to diet, or who have tried way to lose unwanted weight, are resorting to Di Pietro's K-E Diet - named after a fat-burning process called ketosis in which glycogen from the liver is depleted and an increase in the use of fat cells in the body begins.

The process takes just 10 days and promises weight loss of around 10 kilograms - almost one kilogram of weight lost daily. But while the miracle diet might sound too good to be true to some, the side effects can be a little more than just uncomfortable. Bad breath, constipation and lethargy are just some of the negative aspects of this extreme diet. People with kidney problems are warned to stay well away from the diet too.

"People want to be perfect," Di Pietro told the New York Times as part of what motivated his development of the diet.

"At first I decided not to do it for people who just want to lose a few pounds. But then I thought, why should I say five or 10 pounds are not enough?"
