You've probably seen Michelle Cowley in Sports Illustrated's Swimwear Edition or on the catwalk at fashion week, but you've never have you seen her like this before. She's pregnant and loving it. If only the rest of us could look this good pregnant! We chatted to her about becoming a mother…

From Shape cover and Sports Illustrated swimsuit model to mom-to-be. How has being pregnant changed your life?

Well, obviously my modelling work has been put on hold while I'm pregnant. It's just been all about preparing for my baby's arrival, which has been a great break from travelling. I do intend to continue modelling though, once I am able to, time wise. I have continued my fitness training throughout pregnancy so being Shape cover fit won't be a problem.

There's probably a lot of pressure for you to keep your weight in check, skin healthy and so forth, being a model. Do you have any tips for pregnant women out there how to protect your best assets during pregnancy?

Definitely keep exercising, but not too much in the first three months. If you are not fit then try yoga or pilates. I don't believe in food cravings and binge eating, Patrick Holford has the perfect book on food during pregnancy and every woman should follow his advice. If you get in a broad spectrum of nutrients you should not get out-of-control unhealthy cravings.

Tell us a bit more about yourself. What do you like to do in your downtime, hobbies etc.

In my downtime I love to read, watch a great movie or cook. I also paint and love going for walks in the forest or the beach. And I have two amazing dogs that I love throwing ball to.

What are your future plans? Are you going to be going back to modelling afterwards?

I will definitely return to modelling but will have to be selective regarding overseas assignments.

Your sister is often alongside you on the catwalk. Are the two of you close/are you similar in any way…

My sister and I are best friends but are really quite different people. I think we admire the other ones differences, which works.

What advice would you give women out there who are thinking of having a baby/falling pregnant?

Well, I really think you should be in a secure relationship, don't think of falling pregnant to salvage a relationship! Also take finance into consideration, having kids is expensive.

Anything else you would like to add?

Falling pregnant definitely feels like my most important job to date. I'm loving the changes both physically and mentally and really see it as a privilege and miracle.
