An 11-year-old Bulgarian girl has become a mother after giving birth to a baby girl in the southeastern town of Sliven, hospital officials said on Friday.
The baby, born on Thursday evening and named Violeta, was healthy and weighed 2.5 kilogrammes (5.5 pounds).
The mother, who is of Roma origin, asked to be released from hospital on Friday so that she could marry the baby's 19-year-old father.
The prosecution said it would look into the case because sex with minors is a crime in Bulgaria.
It is not uncommon in Bulgaria for Roma girls to become mothers at a very early age.
