The finalists for the Men's Health Look 2008 have now been chosen. After a nationwide search, 10 guys who best embody the active lifestyle of the Men's Health man made the final cut.

Finalists chosen were South African guys who are passionate about life, see themselves as role models, are good looking, place health and fitness at the forefront of their busy lifestyles, are committed to their friends, family and career and appreciate a good cause as much as a good adventure.

  The 10 Men's Health Look 2008 finalists are:

  • Marcel Snyman (20), is from Pretoria and works as an insurance broker for his family's business. He is an avid diver and kitesurfer.

  • Brendan Currin (30), lives in Johannesburg. He is in his fifth year as a medical student and works weekends at Baragwaneth hospital.
  • Paul Wilson (25), works as a model and lives in Johannesburg. He's also the drummer in the band, Southern Gypsy Queen.
  • Andile Mxakaza (30), works as an exercise specialist and actor. He is from Johannesburg and has a keen interest in kickboxing.
  • Patrick Kasongo (22), is an architectural student and personal trainer. He resides in Berea in Durban.
  •   

  • Vuyo Ngwabe (21), is from Umlazi in KZN and works as a full-time model.
  • Dewald Nolte (25), works as an engineer and lives in Stellenbosch in the Western Cape. He is also a keen trail runner and swimmer.
  • Ewan Strydom (25), is from Cape Town and works as both a personal fitness consultant and part-time model.
  • Jabulani (25), is originally from Hammanskraal, Gauteng but now resides in Simonstown in Cape Town where he works as an SA navy intelligence officer.
  • Derek Wilmink (24), works as a trainee accountant in Hout Bay in Cape Town. The martial art of Muay Thai is his sport of choice.
  • As part of the judging process, finalists will take part in an action-packed adventure weekend in the Western Cape that is set to test their strength and endurance.

    Activities include abseiling off Table Mountain, paragliding from Lions Head, competing in a strongman competition on the beach, mountain biking in Winelands as well as other activities and challenges on Robben Island.

    Says Men's Health Editor, Ridwaan Bawa: "Our finalists all, in one way or another, reflect the positive energy, drive and attitude that Men's Health promotes and believes in. The weekend of extreme activities, as well as the Men's Health Look night itself, will ultimately give the judges the insight into each individual needed to choose our winner."

     The winner will be announced at the final gala event at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town on Thursday 30 October 2008. A total cash prize of R30 000 will be awarded to the top three finalists, including prizes from sponsors; Nike, Hunter's Dry, Hugo Boss and Dentyne. The overall winner receives a photographic shoot with the Men's Health team and stands a chance of winning a spot on the cover of the magazine in 2009.

    Now in its tenth year, recent winners of the Men's Health Look include: Mark Pearce (2007); Kevin Tsehisi (2006); Samuel Allerton (2005); Chester Foster (2004); and Janez Vermuiren (2003).
