Cuddles, comfortable underwear and someone saying you've lost weight have emerged on a list of 50 things which make a woman feel good.

While sexy lingerie and comfortable underwear both featured amongst the top five things that make women feel great, comfy undies came in above their racier counterparts. Yet, the top of the list of feel good factors was receiving spontaneous affection from your significant other.

When it comes to compliments, being told you look like you've lost weight was the women's favourite, followed by compliments about their age, outfit and hairstyle.

But, it seems that women take as much pleasure from giving as from receiving, ranking this in the top five.

Lower down on the list, but no less significant was receiving a bunch of flowers or a gift from out of the blue.

"In January, we all need a pick-me-up but as this survey shows, it doesn't need to cost the earth," a spokeswoman for Sainsbury's, which commissioned the poll of 2000 women, said.

A bubble bath was rated more highly than a spa day, while reading a book beat watching a soap opera, not to mention tucking into a chocolate bar which ranked more highly than all of these.

Women are more likely to prefer quiet indulgence in the privacy of their own home ton doing something social with friends, having a manicure or going on a first date.

Even clean teeth come in above going out for lunch or someone noticing your new haircut.

A third of ladies feel good when they have time to immerse themselves in a brilliant book, while three-quarters love having a meal cooked for them.

For those women who have children, hearing that they are clever or well-behaved makes them feel fantastic, and mums also love it when they get a proper hug from their little one at the end of a stressful day.

All ladies love to shop – and purchases such as a new bottle of perfume, a push-up bra and shapewear please them no end.

In fact, when out shopping, 30 percent get excited to see a sale in their favourite shop, while 43 percent are thrilled to land a bargain. It's no surprise then that women feel good when taking their heels off at the end of a long day!

Other feel-good factors include watching a series, receiving a bunch of flowers and exercise, as does  singing along to the car radio.
