It seems age is nothing but a number, a rise in sexy single women in their fifties suggests.

Not only are these single women in their fifties, (known as “Swofties”), dressing more provocatively than they did when they were younger, they’re also making up for lost youth by attending music festivals, drinking champagne cocktails and being flirtatious when the urge strikes.

This growing group of women tend to be divorcees who discover a new lease on life in their middle age, often choosing their new lifestyle in order to attract new partners.  

UK online retailer for mature women, isme.com conducted the study of 1000 women between the ages of 50 and 65 and found that two-thirds of those surveyed said their single status gave them the freedom to dress in whatever way they liked, instead of having to wear clothes their husbands liked.  

One third admitted that they so enjoyed their new-found freedom so much that they weren’t sure they’d ever let themselves get tied up in a marriage or longterm relationship again.   

More than half said that their new lifestyle had them going on at least one romantic date in the past year. But it seems the majority of Swofties have yet to discover the convenience of online dating with only one in 10 finding potential dates through dating sites.  

Even so, the survey highlights that mature women shouldn’t resign themselves to a boring life, but rather that maturity brings with it a sense of confidence that can mean having a lot more fun.
