This August we celebrate women; we recognise and appreciate everything that women do and represent. Women are mothers, caregivers, business partners, supporters, nurturers, activists, healers, visionaries, movers and shakers. Through the hundreds of things that women achieve and represent one of the most important things (as a woman) you often forget is to look after you and sometimes even put yourself first.
This August spend a little time on yourself and focus on the things that really count.
Some simple ways to do this…
Be kind to yourself. Spend at least an hour a day with yourself, whether you go for a walk, exercise or simply meditate.
Get active. Exercise is one of the best stress relievers. Try aim to get your heart rate up and break into a sweat at least four times a week. Even sex is a great form of exercise!
Eat Healthy. It is really important to
ensure that you have a well balanced and nutritious diet, as hard as it may seem at times. All too often we forget to even have breakfast — the most important meal of the day. We all know this, but when you don’t eat properly your body hangs on to the fat, as it becomes unsure when it will get the next meal.
Make sure you get enough rest. By taking a hot shower or bath before you head off to bed adds to a more restful night of sleep.
Health check. It’s important to know your health status. Go for all the routine health exams i.e. mammograms, blood pressure, BMI etc. Knowledge is power and by knowing where you stand with your health you will be able to take the right steps to a healthier and happier life.
Be happy, don't worry. We all go through challenging and tough times. So when the bats are down its important to remember that laughing is the best medicine… it’s amazing how infectious a smile can
be.
Do it together. Exercise with a friend. When you do this it helps you to stay motivated and accountable to someone else.
Precious family time. Go outside and kick around a ball with your family. What better way to stay active, spend time with the family and have a good laugh at yourself and everyone else.
Remember this month it is about you so don’t be afraid to indulge in the simple things that build that healthy body and mind.
