Wine: Plaisir De Merle Petit Plaisir 2015
Wine of Origin: Western Cape
Winery Location: Simonsberg
Winemaker: Niel Bester
Background: The success of the Petit Plaisir since its first vintage (2010) was released in Europe, especially Denmark, created a demand for its local availability and so the 2013 vintage was launched onto the local market in 2014. At a tasting this week we enjoyed the current 2015 vintage and judging by the comments from the experienced tasters it promises to continue its success with many remarking that it over delivers for its price! The wine is a blend of 64% Shiraz with Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. After fermentation the wines were separately matured in older 300 litre American and French oak barrels for a period of between 12 to 16 months prior to blending and later bottling.
Result: The wine shows black fruit aromas with a delightful richness. Soft Shiraz flavours can be found on the mid-palate, along with lingering plums on a well-rounded silky finish
