Wine: Glenelly “The Glass Collection” Cabernet Sauvignon 2014
Wine of Origin: Stellenbosch
Winery Location: Stellenbosch
Winemaker: Luke O’Cuinneagain
Background: Glenelly Cellars is owned by Madame May-Eliane de Lencquesaing previously of the French Chateau Pichon Longueville de Lalande where she had a Glass Museum housing one of the world’s biggest private collections of hand blown glass. However, after selling the Chateau along with her glass collection she has renewed her interest by creating a unique and expanding glass collection at Glenelly and even named a range of exceptional quality wines under The Glass Collection. “Fine wine and fine glass share many mysterious attributes, both are extracted from poor soil by the skill of man” says Madame May. The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were grown on the estate’s perfectly manicured vineyards and has achieved recognition by winning several significant awards as well as being listed on prestigious wine lists both locally and abroad. The wine spent 12 months in French oak prior to bottling.
Result: Complex with ripe plums, spice and attractive wood aromas and flavours, this wine is full with firm, ripe tannins leading to a long aftertaste.
When to drink: now till 2022
Drink with what: We enjoyed the wine with grass fed braised beef neck, cepes mushrooms, asparagus and pomme with red wine jus prepared by Chef Christophe Dehosse at The Vine Bistro at Glenelly.
