Wed, 13 Jun 2012 9:35 AMAs the old adage goes: "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach", so it makes sense to plan a delicious meal for Dad this coming Father's Day to etch a satisfied smile across his face.
Since Father's Day is "om die draai" (Sunday, 17 June to be exact), it's time to start planning this culinary journey to spoil the man who taught you how to ride your bicycle and who put up with your tantrums.
Treat him to a wonderful meal out at the restaurants below and make him a delicious homemade treat to show him how much you love him!
Caramel popcorn
Satisfy your dad's sweet tooth with this delicious and easy-to-make treat.
Add a personal touch by placing your creation in a nice paper bag and tying it with a ribbon and tag.
Set your dad up on the couch with his favourite movie or sports programme, serve him his popcorn and leave him to relax and unwind for a while.
Ingredients
50g kernels
1 tablespoon of Sunflower oil
Salt to taste
Caramel coating
50g Castor sugar
15g butter
Method
Add the oil to a very hot and deep pot, then add the kernels and swirl the pan around to ensure all kernels are coated with oil and spread out evenly.
Quickly cover with the lid.
Once the popping is clearly under way, turn the plate off and listen for when the popping slows down to one or two pops every two seconds then remove from heat and pour the popcorn into a large bowl.
In a saucepan, melt the sugar and butter, making sure the sugar dissolves completely.
Drizzle the caramel over the popcorn stirring with a spatula to coat it properly.
Leave to set and then place the popcorn in a paper bag, tying with a ribbon and tag especially for Dad.
