We spend much of our lives in a desperate scramble of obligations. Don't get me wrong, it's mostly by choice that we find ourselves so vigorously running the rat race, but there's no harm in extricating ourselves every now and then for a moment or two of complete indulgence in celebration of life and our simple existence.

This goes some way in explaining the recent brain child of the lovely Peta Vellar, co-owner of Nitida Farm, who worked with Cassia restaurant's Chef Warren Swaffield to create a menu specifically aimed at celebrating women over August.

A glass of either of Nitida's two exquisite bubblies - a traditional Cap Classique and an exciting red bubbly made with Shiraz grapes, dubbed the Matriarch and the Matriarch in Red, respectively - helps to kicks things off. Nitida's sparkling wine was created in honour of Vellar's own mother and as has Cassia's most recent Women's Day menu.

Vellar described her mother as a woman of great tenacity and strength. "She had intense humanity, wisdom and colonial graciousness and personified the name, Matriarch. She really was a benevolent leader to our immediate family and to everyone else we brought home," she explained.

Cassia's Women's Day menu is a delicate affair that offers women a chance to indulge in the simple pleasures of life - with a glass of bubbly in hand, of course!

Starters consist of a tasty, sundried tomato, goat’s cheese and basil tartlet or a hearty minestrone soup with flavourful vegetables and herbed croutons to choose from.

For mains, choose the classic coq au vin, served with mustard mash and garnished with green beans or favour the pan-seared, Norwegian salmon served with saffron risotto.

A gooey chocolate fondant confection served with a rose petal cream and paired with a glass of Nitida Modjadji, Noble Late Harvest with impressions of citrus candy-peel on the palate and named after the most powerful rain queen in southern Africa, concludes a satisfying feast!

This three-course meal including a choice of either a glass of The Matriarch or the Matriarch in red MCC and a glass of Modjadji Noble Late Harvest will be served throughout the month of August in honour of Women’s Day for lunch and dinner, priced at R185 per person.

Treat your friends, your mum, your daughters, sisters and yourself to a wonderful afternoon or evening of celebration!
