A Cape Town centenarian says the secret to her longevity is a tot of whiskey every night.

Eileen Stevens will be celebrating her 101st birthday with friends and family members on Monday.

She told Eyewitness News that travelling and living abroad is definitely one of her fondest memories.

She says she still drives her golf cart around her retirement village to her weekly hair salon appointments.

Stevens says it is that little bit of kick in her drink everyday that makes life so much more interesting.

"I have a little drink at night. I only drink one little whisky when I watch the news," she says.

She adds her memory is not what it used to be and she still has to be reminded that it’s her birthday today.

"I’m 101 and I like setting records. I haven’t heard of any other 101-year-old who still attends meetings."
