Most working adults would sooner pour themselves a glass of wine after a stressful day than spend time with their partner or children.

Coming home to your partner and children after a long, stressful day at work is meant to be a pretty picture, but no matter how tough your day was, the children still need to be bathed, fed andput to bed.

In a poll conducted by Drinkware, six in every ten adults admitted that they prefer relaxing alone with up to four drinks at the end of a heavy day at work.  

Women were more likely to reach for the alcohol on a week night, with 73 percent citing the need to unwind as the main motivator compared with only 26 percent of men giving the same reason. More worryingly, 61 percent of women said they were most likely to drink

One glass is never enough. Psychologist Donna Dawson was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying that when it comes to drinking alcohol your brain tells you that if one glass makes you feel great, more will make you feel even better which explains why people tend to drink too much after a tough day at the office.

Tough day or not, too much alcohol does cause harm to our bodies. To stay healthy, it's important to practise self control over our intake of alcohol.

Women are advised to drink no more than 14 units of alcohol a week while men should have no more than 21. One alcohol unit is measured as half a 175ml glass of red wine, a 25ml single measure of whisky or a third of a pint of beer.
