Avant-garde young designer from Cape Town, Petro Nieuwoudt, won the Triumph Inspiration Award in South Africa at an edgy fashion event in Cape Town on Wednesday, and will represent South Africa at the international event in Beijing in July with her black panelled ensemble.
The winners were as follows:
1st. Petra Nieuwoudt, Cape Peninsula University of Technology
2nd. Megan Perks, Cape Peninsula University of Technology
3rd. Suné Venter, Tshwane University of Technology
This global design competition, the Triumph Inspiration Awards, invited fashion design students, from across South Africa to submit designs earlier this year and 22 finalists were selected to take part in the national final in Cape Town on 7 May.
The South African winner will be flown to Beijing to compete against peers from more than 30 other countries in July.
The international winner will be offered a unique opportunity: in addition to a cash prize of €15 000 they will see their showpiece adapted and interpreted by the Triumph design team, leading to production of the set. The finished product will be produced and sold as a special limited edition in selected Triumph stores worldwide.
