Rebekah Kendal visits the ONEwellness spa at the Radisson Hotel, an oasis in the stormy weather, and finds that their de-aging body wrap not only invigorates, but will transport you to a tropical paradise...
I've just stripped down to my undies in front of a complete stranger. Again. It's becoming something of an occupational hazard, I'm afraid to say. Not that I'm complaining…
The location of this latest bout of near-nudity is the Radisson Hotel at the Waterfront. Well, more specifically, it's in one of the cosy therapy rooms at the hotel's plush ONEwellness spa.
After being spoilt with a decadent breakfast of pastries, pancakes, colourful fruit kebabs and wheatgrass shooters, it doesn't take much to persuade me that clothes are an unnecessary hindrance in the pursuit of pleasure… and gorgeously soft and youthful skin.
Ah yes, even the hideous pair of oversized disposable panties (an unfortunate necessity in the luxurious world of scrubs and wraps) doesn't deter me.
Pineapples and papaya
Small sacrifices for the smooth iridescent skin that Pevonia's Tropicale De-Aging experience promises. I'm not disappointed. With rain and wind battering the Cape in what is arguably the worst spring weather ever, I'm transported to a tropical paradise where the air is saturated with the heady scent of pineapples and papaya.
I bask in the warm glow of soft heated towels as my body is subjected to a vigorous sea salt scrub. I'm tempted to ask for a Piña Colada, but settle instead for freshly squeezed orange juice.
Still tingling from the scrub, I am coated in cool, fragrant mask of nourishing papaya-pineapple crème fraîche before being wrapped up in plastic and covered in warm towels.
I confess I may have drifted off to sleep in this warm, moist plastic cocoon. I blame the expertly administered head massage.
I emerge a beautiful butterfly (well, that's what I like to tell myself) and after being treated to a pedicure, I slip back into my work clothes and head out into the blustery weather. But beneath my clothes, I feel gloriously, silkily naked and hidden in my boots are gorgeous red toenails. Summer goddess here I come!
ONEwellness spa at the Radisson Hotel is an oasis of calm in the middle of a bustling city. With an organic feel, earthy colours and wooden and stone finishes the spa is a neutral space in which both men and women will feel comfortable. The more energetic can make use of the small, but well-equipped gym or swimming pool, while those looking to detox and relax can take a journey through a series of saunas, steam and mist rooms.
The Pevonia Ligne Tropicale De-Aging Body System, which targets aging, dehydration and loss of elasticity, also includes the Tropical Oasis therapy — a mango and passion fruit yoghurt wrap for firming and brightening the skin. The Pevonia products, which are only available through health spas, have a Tegosphere delivery system, containing Retinol, which responds to the skin's natural pH to ensure maximum absorption.
