Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour 2012 set to thrill South African audiences

The local leg of the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour 2012, hosted by Cape Union Mart for the seventh consecutive year, is set to kick off on Friday 26 October and brings to our shores the very best films on Mountain Culture. The Tour is co-hosted by outdoor brands K-Way, Deuter, Go-Pro and LED Lenser.

Death-defying mountain-based adventures, spectacular sportsmanship and breath-taking scenery all combine to make up this remarkable series of films produced by the world’s finest mountain filmmakers.

The nine short films were selected from hundreds of entries received by the Banff Centre in Canada from mountain-based extreme sport and adventure filmmakers across the globe. Films featured in the 2012 line-up include All.I.Can: The Short Cut, Towers of the Ennedi, Frontier, Reel Rock: Origins – Obe & Ashima, White Water Grand Prix, C.A.R.C.A, From the Inside Out, Concrete Dreams and Reel Rock: Sketchy Andy.

"As South Africa’s favourite outdoor store we first brought the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour to South Africa in 2006. Since then the film festival has become incredibly popular with South Africans and it is always with excitement and anticipation that we present the line-up to the public,” explains Cape Union Mart Marketing Director, Evan Torrance.

"This year's adrenaline packed antics feature, amongst others, extreme snow sports, rock climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, bouldering and slacklining – all brought to life on the big screen.  It’s an epic two hour long adventure-filled ride, sure to be a hit with thrill seekers, film fundi’s and all those who want to experience the rush of exhilarating freedom," says Torrance.

The films are presented as a single screening once daily from 26 October to 1 November 2012 at select Ster-Kinekor cinemas across the country.  For more information and to watch the trailer, check out www.banff.co.za.
