Zara was born in 1981 to Princess Anne and her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips. At the request of the Princess, her children were not given royal titles. Though Zara is 12th in line to the throne, she is unlikely to receive any royal title as she is a grandchild of the monarch through a female line.

Sporting a scar after a car accident in which her Land Rover flipped while she was driving alone in Gloucestershire in 2000, Zara arrives for the Christmas morning church service at St Mary Magdalene Church on Christmas Day. After carrying out a breathalyser test, police announced that Zara had not been driving under the influence of alcohol. It was believed that wet conditions caused her to lose control of the vehicle. In a pretty mint-green dress, Zara took part in the wedding of her brother, Peter Phillip, to Autumn Kelly in 2008.
